Abstract:English listening and speaking has always been a weak link in Chinese students' English learning,which form the "dumb English".This article will analyze the problems in college English listening teaching.Hoping it will draw teachers’ attention.

  English listening and speaking has always been a weak link in Chinese students' English learning,which form the "dumb English". In order to change this phenomenon, the requirements of college English teaching in "student-centered" teaching mode think we should pay attention to cultivate the students' comprehensive application ability, especially listening and speaking skills.It means that in the process of teaching, listening teaching plays a vital role in the whole teaching process, however, it still exists problems in college English listening teaching. This article will analyze the problems in college English listening teaching according to my own teaching experience. It listed as follows:
  (a) Students do not interested in listening class. Although teaching reform he been carried out almost ten years, the traditional way clearly was also popular because of the test scores. From teachers’point of view, the requirement of students is as long as they could cope with the exam, the other can be ignored. Coupled with the pressure of college entrance examination,both teachers and students are pay more attention to grammar and vocabulary rather than listening class so that many freshmen do not adapt when they enter the college. Because they can not understand what is teacher talking about, gradually, a lot of students label listening class as entertain class, even reluctantly go to class. Study interest lost day by day.
  (b) The time for listening class is short. Although the ministry of education of college English teaching reform has been carried out for a long time, many colleges also provide language lab, multimedia and other advanced tools,in fact, the frequent time for listening course is only once a week, which caused the learning effect is not ideal.
  (c) Hing listening class in form of large class. Since enrollment expansion of colleges and universities, the shortage of English teachers became the main problem, so many schools adopt he class in form of large class. Many large classes’ model do not he changed up to now, which caused the phenomenon that teacher is difficult to manage and many activities are difficult to expand, so students only dumb with listening, influence the teaching quality and students' learning interests.
  Despite the above factors, which affect the listening teaching is not completely control by teachers, but the teacher has the responsibility and obligation from the present situation to explore effective teaching methods, to provide feasible suggestion and experience for the listening teaching.
