Translation, a kind of language practical activity, reproduces the other language’s contents, styles, techniques, and has a long history. The question “What is translation?” is the most basic, still the most important question to the translation theorists; therefore most discussions on the nature of the translation seem to be centered around it. There he in history been innumerable explanations as to what translation is. In his book A Series of Translation Studies in China, professor Tan Zaixi points out that “all the definitions of translation mostly fall into one or another of these three models: conventional, literary, and linguistic.”
About this field, scientists from many countries he started research from different aspects, however, the field is still full of unknown and uncertain things. English literary and art critic, Charlize, said: “So far, translation is the most complex activity during the evolutionary process.’’ Because translation is not like other science, for example: math, physics, etc, it has no certain rules or principles, people always grope for its profound secret. Fuzziness is the inherent characteristic of language, translation activities are part of natural language, therefore fuzziness must be one character of translation. At home and abroad, there he appeared various translation theories, new ideas he been come up ceaselessly. Through careful consideration, we can find almost all the translation theories are fuzzy, there are not certain criteria.
Fuzziness is an inherent character of human language, which facilitates our exchange of ideas and feelings, for it enables us to express ourselves freely. “Fuzziness plays an essential part in human cognition because most of the classes encountered in the real world are fuzzy-some only slightly and some markedly so. The pervasiveness of fuzziness in human thinking processes suggests that much of the logic behind human reasoning is not the traditional two-valued or even multi-value logic, but logic with fuzzy truths, fuzzy connectives and fuzzy rules of inference. Indeed, it argues that it is the ability of the human brain to manipulate fuzzy concepts that distinguishes human intelligence from machine intelligence,” Yager said in his article.
