  Abstract. With the rapid development of science and technology, the multi-media technology is playing a more important role than the traditional methods in English teaching. This paper mainly talks about the feasibility of multi-media technology in English teaching in terms of its advantages and disadvantages. We must do some researches to apply it to the English teaching so that it will serve well for our teaching reform.

1.Introduction

  The advent of the 21st century, the history of human civilization has already entered into an information society. The competition of the 21st century is a talent competition, depending on education and talent cultivation. The rapid development in information technology today, education is not like before, with a single means and methods whereabouts impart knowledge, but to make students independent thinking and learning. Modern education (information) technology is the introduction of classroom teaching.
  The core of modern educational technology, multimedia technology, and modern education with most advanced teaching methods. Computer integration of a variety of electronic media (digitized text, graphics, animation, images, audio and video) and control them, and logic pouch hung from belt then established between these media, collaborative, said the richer and more complex information. From the narrow perspective of English teaching, teach interactive multimedia computer-controlled system. Adequate and reasonable use of multimedia teaching techniques in teaching English, make combined with vivid teaching art, to be able to form the best state close to the level of students' psychological development, can promote active learning, reflects the dominant position of students, the development of the student's personality to improve the overall quality of students, and comprehensively improve teaching, so as to achieve the basic goal of the implementation of quality education in English.
  2.The advantage of multimedia technology
  in English teaching
  2.1 Create situations to attract students to stimulate students' interest in learning
  Modern American psychologist Bruner said: "the best stimulus to learning, but the interest of the learned material." With interest, students can take the initiative and enjoyable learning to play the main role in the classroom teaching and spirit of initiative. Interest is a positive role in the emotional, not produced in a vacuum; it is linked and emotional, always in certain situations. English teaching, the use of multimedia technologies create situations to stimulate students' senses, from the multi-faceted, and the organic combination of text, sound, pictures, video, compared to traditional teaching methods with a blackboard and a piece of chalk, showing strong vitality. Multimedia CD-ROM authentic, pure voice, intonation, is very conducive to the imitation of the students and to improve the level of spoken English. Vivid dialogue scene, the grammar of the system, rich cultural background, can glance; between classes can enjoy the beautiful English songs, movie classic clip, broaden students' horizons, cultivate the sentiment, the United States enjoy, inspired interest in learning English.
