Abstract: Lead-in, the first teaching step of a class, which is one of the most basic steps in English classroom teaching. At the beginning of the class, the students will be more concentrated in the classroom teaching process with a proper and succesul lead in, which makes students take an active part in the whole class. Therefore, lead in plays an essential role in the process of English teaching.

  1. The principle of lead in
  In order to make lead in play an important role in the class, teachers should know about some principles of lead in, which can make the lead in proper and effective. There are following principles of lead in:
  1.1 Attach too much importance to interest in lead in step
  If the way of lead in is proper and interesting, the students will be interested in the class and very easy to learn the new knowledge.
  1.2 Lead in should service for the content of teaching
  Because of different content of every class, which requires that the teacher study and analysis the teaching content and pay attention to the connection between the design of lead in and classroom teaching when they design the lead in.

  2.1 Asking some questions
  In lead in steps, the teacher can prepare some proper and succesul questions so that the students will he a lesson with the questions. Take Unit 1 how often do you exercise? in junior students’book for example, the teacher can use this kind of means to conduct new lesson.
  T: Every morning, I like do some exercise after getting up. Do you like doing exercise?
  The most students answer: Yes, I do.
  The teacher continues: Is it good for us to do some exercise?
  The students answer again: Yes, it is.
  The teacher continues: Why is it good to do exercise? Please cite the advantages of doing exercise.

  The teacher asks again: How often do you exercise? Then the teacher can continue to say like this: Today we’re going to talk about how often you do things. Therefore, the students’attention can be attached firmly. And the students’ thinking and the teaching of the teacher can melt together. Both the teaching and learning and the learning can benefit a lot from it.
  2.2Making use of the emotion
  Emotion is the base for learning language. It is better to learn in a pleasant and harmonious ambience. Using emotion to lead in new lesson can create pleasant classroom atmosphere. For example, when the teacher organizes the students to learn the past tense of verb Be, he or she can adapt to this way:
